In what has to be one of the coolest new projects in the City of Greenville, the much anticipated Spinx Market is getting closer to reality. The folks at Spinx have requested that the city allow them to operate from 5am until 2am. This will be fantastic and I see no reason why the city should deny this request. The design is spectacular by SHLTR Architects and this kind of convenience store is much needed in this part of town in Greenville’s historic West End.
I was in downtown recently for the Artisphere weekend and walked by where the Spinx Market will be located. This was from Mother’s Day – mid May 2024. It’s in an absolutely killer location.
The Greenville City Council recently approved for the building of a much needed parking structure in Greenville’s fast growing West End. According to the article in the Greenville Journal, “the council approved $5.6 million for a mixed-use facility in Greenville’s West End — an area that has long been lacking in adequate parking, according to council members — that would include 560 parking spaces to be leased to the city over 30 years.”
Additional development will also take place at this location with 250 apartment units and 15,000 SF of retail space. The Post and Courier published a story about this development back in February and has a few more details. Apparently there are plans to have a roof top plaza on top of the parking garage. I can’t quite visualize how all of this will come together but Seamon Whiteside is the architect. They do amazing work so I’m sure this will also be quite remarkable.
The garage will be located next to the Eggs Up Grill on Augusta St.
This is an exciting development coming to Greenville’s Historic West End District. It was just announced that Kimpton Hotels will be building a 170 room hotel at the corner of Markley and Rhett Streets. I’ve stayed in Kimpton Hotels before. They have always been gorgeous with great service.
The new project is Greenville is is just one block off of Main Street. It’s on the other side of Main opposite Flour Field. It’s a great sign that development is moving off of Main Street. That’s a big deal and should lead to additional development.
The Upstate Business Journal has an excellent article about the new to-be-built Greenville Kimpton Hotel along with HospitalityNet has an article as well.
