Just have to run a plug for my Catholic parish here in the Upstate of South Carolina. Prince of Peace was recently named the “Best Place of Worship in the Upstate for 2022.” On the Prince of Peace Facebook page, the church published the following…

“We are deeply moved and profoundly grateful to have learned that Prince of Peace Catholic Church was named the 🏆 2022 Best Place of Worship in the Upstate 🏆 in the annual contest hosted by the Greenville News and representing over 40,000 participants. Our parish was up against solid competition across a diverse group of denominations and non-denominational churches in the area! This award belongs to every member of our parish and school community for the way in which they live their faith pursuing sainthood, welcome and serve others, and spread goodwill as Catholics in the Upstate. Thank you to each one of you who voted!
“Hold your eyes on God and leave the doing to Him. That is all the doing you have to worry about.” – St. Jane Frances de Chantal”

We have found Peace of Peace to be a wonderful community and an event better place to worship!

Greenville Zoo Plans $5 Million Upgrade

Photo Credit: Greenville Zoo Facebook Page

The Greenville Zoo is about to get some nice improvements. According to the story running in the Post and Courier the Zoo will see the following:

“A giraffe feeding platform. An upgraded, more accessible Africa plaza. A new orangutan enclosure and an renovated siamang exhibit. An expanded farmyard section.

Those capital projects are in the pipeline at the Greenville Zoo, upgrades intended to enhance the experience of visitors and keep the facility in line with Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation standards.

Altogether, the improvements are expected to cost more than $5 million, part of which will be covered by a $1 million earmark in the state budget for the current fiscal year and the rest of which will be funded through private donations.”

I was kind of a amazed that Greenville has a Zoo given the size of the Upstate but this is just another sign of the continual improvements being made here and the quality of life is tough to beat!

Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson – Upstate Economic Development Organizations

Shaw Gardens with view of new Camperdown Development in background – Greeville, SC | John Murphy, Greenville Real Estate News

One of the things I’ve noticed here in the Upstate is just how many different organizations there are when it comes to economic development and growth. Of course with economic growth comes more businesses locating here with the additional housing to accommodate the growth in employees. It’s a terrific place for business – particularly those in manufacturing, distribution and logistics. It seems a bit light when it comes to IT tech and med tech but there are movements afoot to try to bring more of those companies and or divisions to the Upstate. The Upstate Business Journal has an excellent summary of Upstate Economic Development organizations.

Greenville is Poised for Continued Growth – GADC

The Greenville area continues to attract many newcomers to the area. Known as the Upstate of South Carolina, the area surrounding Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson and surrounding communities continue to see lots of growth.

The Greenville Area Development Corporation has been helping the Greenville area attract businesses for 20 years. They have helped to put the greater Greenville area on the map. It has become a hub for manufacturing but there is talk as to how to expand to IT and biotech as well as how to bring headquarters to the Upstate. Here’s a great article from the Greenville Business Magazine on some of the latest thinking from the GADC.

Greenville is a beautiful area. It’s about 60-90 minutes to the mountains and 3.5-4 hours away to the ocean. It’s not too crowded – yet. Home prices and land prices are still reasonable compared to other parts of the country. The workforce is excellent and plenty of universities and colleges in the area to develop and educated workforce. Greenville Technical College does a great job of training and educating many in the area for the skills they need in their jobs.

Greenville County Sees Record Capital Investment in 2020 Despite Covid-19

Greenville, SC – Camperdown Development

I think we can mark Greenville County as one of the beneficiaries of the changes sweeping across the country given the Covid-19 pandemic.

Greenville County saw a record capital investment commitment of $631 million in 2020 according to the Greenville Area Development Corporation (GADC). This blew away the previous record of $476 million in 2014. The investment is coming from a broad range of companies in various industries. The biggest investments are coming from manufacturing and distribution which remains huge here in the Upstate. But we are also seeing other investments starting to percolate from other industries such as information technology.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Greenville, SC is going to be hitting a lot of peoples’ radars over the next decade. It certainly has come a long way but it’s time to shine is here.

I know people get tired of growth of Greenville, but you are either growing or dying. You can’t have it both ways. Greenville stands to benefit both in terms of manufacturing growth but also in the transition to work from home (WFH). The area is beautiful. The weather is better than much of the rest of the U.S. Cost of living is still relatively low and there are lots of amenities…shopping, the arts, sports etc. I think the schools are still seen as a bit of a weakness but they are working on that. There are plenty of private school options in the area as well. Living here so close to the mountains and just 3.5 hours drive to the beach…it’s just a great place to be…and many others are coming to find that as well.

If you’re thinking of moving here, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to talk. If you want to look for homes, please check out my site at GVLHomesandLand. — John Murphy, Broker Associate, eXp Realty 864-276-1448.
